Monopoly Space is the Monopoly edition from 2020. In this astro-themed version of Monopoly, players travel around in space to buy planets, mine resources, and build their colony. The resources are used to build the domes that make up the colony. The players have to move quickly before the other players take the glory. The first player to complete their space colony and get back to GO (the Earth) wins. This game can be played with 2-4 players.

Starting the Game

Each player will get $900 (not $1,500). This $900 consists of 1 $500 bill, 2 $100 bills, 2 $50 bills, 2 $20 bills, 4 $10 bills, 3 $5 bills, and 5 $1 bills.

The players have no resources to have at the start.

The Chance and Community Chest cards are placed facedown on their corresponding draw decks.

The 22 property Title Deed cards are placed faceup (with numbers showing) near their corresponding board spaces.

Each player will have 4 small domes and 1 large dome outside of the gameboard. These domes will be used to build a colony.

Each player chooses a token and places it on the GO space. A token has its own quadrant for its own colony to build.

  • The astronaut is at the purple quadrant.
  • The Rover is at the orange quadrant.
  • The shuttle is at the green quadrant.
  • The satellite is at the blue quadrant.

All players will roll the dice to determine who goes first. The highest roller gets the first turn. The play moves to the left in a clockwise direction.

Gameplay

Players will move clockwise on the 40-space gameboard. When it is your turn, roll the dice and move your token according to the total number you rolled. Follow the action according to a boardspace that you have landed. After you have completed the action, pass the dice to the player on your left.

  • If you roll a double, you will take another turn and re-roll the dice.
    • If you roll doubles 3 times in a row, DO NOT do anything on your 3rd straight turn but go directly to Jail.

Board spaces

Gravity Loss

There are 2 “Gravity Loss” board spaces: one is where the “Income Tax” space is and the other is where the “Water Works” space is.

When you land on this board space, you must drop 1 resource if you have any. If you do not have a resource, you must pay $25 to the Bank to purchase a resource. But you cannot hold this resource; instead, you have to place it on the board space that you are right now. A player who pass, but not land, on a “Gravity Loss” board space with a resource(s) can retrieve all resources in that board space.

  • If a player lands on that board space with a resource, they cannot get the resources. They must lose 1 of theirs, or pay $25 to place the resource in that board space.

There is a Chance card that protects you from gravity loss. When you land on it, the card must be used and your resources are protected. After it is used, put that card on the bottom of the Chance card draw deck.

  • You CANNOT choose to hold that card when you land on a “Gravity Loss” board space.

Wild Times

There are 2 “Wild Times” board spaces: one is where the “Electric Company" space is and the other is where the “Luxury Tax” space is.

When you land on this board space, you may steal 1 resource from any player. If none of your opponents has a resource, you may choose 1 player to pay the Bank $25 to purchase a resource but they must give it to you.

Warp Run

There are 4 “Warp Run” board spaces; they are replacing the railroads.

When you land on this board space, you have the option of using it to move to another board space. If you want to warp, you must pay $50. You can move to any board space between the “Warp Run” board space that you have landed and the next one. You can move your token to the next “Warp Run” board space. You can stay there to end your turn or you can warp again for another $50. You can go around the gameboard.

  • You can collect $200 if you pass GO while warping.

If you warp to a board space that you want to go, follow the instructions on that board space that you are on.

If you roll a double, you take another turn (even if you warp on your previous turn).

Resources

Monopoly Space resource

Resource

In this game, there are resources to mine and collect from the universe. These resources are used to build domes for your space colony.

Since you cannot use your regular Monopoly money to purchase and build domes, the resources act as another form of “currency”.

There are several ways to mine and acquire the resources, but there are also several ways to lose them.

Additions

You can get a resource(s) by doing any of these things:

  • When you buy a property for a purchase price, you can also buy a resource for $25.
    • If you get a property through an auction, you CANNOT buy a resource.
  • When you land on your own property, you can buy a resource for $25.
  • Land on your opponent’s property (the color set is not complete). You must pay the rent first to that owner. After that, you can buy a resource for $25.
  • Somebody else lands on your own property. As the owner of that property, you can buy a resource for $25.
  • Land on your own property that is part of your complete color set. You can buy multiple resources (depending on a color set) for $25 each.
    • For the Brown and Dark Blue color sets, you can buy up to 2 resources.
    • For the other color sets, you can buy up to 3 resources.
  • Land on your opponent’s property that is part of their complete color set. You must pay the rent first to that owner. After that, you can buy a resource for $50 (doubled).
  • Somebody else lands on your property that is part of your complete color set. You can buy only 1 resource for $25.
  • Through a Chance or Community Chest card.
  • Land on a “Wild Times” board space. You can steal 1 resource from any of your opponents.
    • If your opponent does not have a resource, they must buy a resource for $25 but they must give it to you.
  • Pass a “Gravity Loss” board space with a resource(s) “deposited” in that board space. You will get all “deposited” resources from there.
  • Through effective trades & deals.

Subtractions

Your resource(s) may be lost or stolen by any of these things:

  • When you land on the “Gravity Loss” board space, you drop 1 resource to that board space.
    • If you do not have any resource, you pay $25 to get a resource but you place it on that board space.
    • If you have a Chance card that protects you from gravity loss, you do not lose your resource (or money). However, you lose that Chance card due to usage against gravity loss.
  • When somebody else lands on a “Wild Times” board space and they choose you, you must give 1 resource to that player.
    • If you do not have any resource, you pay $25 to get a resource but you must give it to that player.
  • Through a Chance or Community Chest card.
    • If you do not have any resource, you lose money instead.
  • Through trades & deals.
    • Especially if you give away resources to get properties in order to complete a color set.

Using Resources

You use your resources to build domes for your colony. The costs of resources to build domes are as follows:

  • Small Dome - 3 Resources
  • Large Dome - 5 Resources
