Rules[]

The rules for this game are similar to regular Monopoly. Refer to the official game rules for more info. There are some added twists to this edition.

Differences[]

Setups[]

The setup is exactly the same, but there are additional things to do. Each player starts with 2 sore loser coins. Mr. Monopoly is placed in the center of the gameboard.

Turn Order[]

Each player rolls the dice to determine who goes first. The player with the lowest roll will go first.

  • This is different from the highest roll in regular Monopoly and in most editions.

Utilities[]

Since the utilities do not have their Title Deed cards, the players cannot own them. Instead, a player landing on a utility will pay the bill of $150.

Free Parking[]

If a player lands on this space, they will steal 1 sore loser coin from 1 opponent.

Selling Houses & Hotels[]

Once the House is in place, it cannot be removed to sell for cash. Although a player loses a street (due to Mr. Monopoly or bankruptcy), the buildings will stay there.

  • If owed to the Bank in the event of bankruptcy, the Bank will not get back the Houses (& Hotels).
  • The 4 Houses can be removed for placing a Hotel. These Houses removed will go to the Bank.
    • The Hotel cannot be sold also.

Getting Out of Jail[]

In this game, there are actually 4 ways to get out of Jail.

The fourth (new) way is to spend all 4 sore loser coins to take Mr. Monopoly with you. He cannot go to Jail, so you are out of Jail for free.

End of the Game[]

The game will end in another way.

Sore Loser Coins[]

Monopoly for Sore Losers - sore loser coins

Sore Loser coins

A player will collect 1 sore loser coin if any one of these events happened:

  • Pay rent
  • Pay utility bill or tax
  • Go to Jail for any reason
    • The reasons are: landing on “Go to Jail” space, Chance card, Community Chest card, and Mr. Monopoly takes you to Jail when he lands on the "Go to Jail" space.
  • Land on your own property
  • Mr. Monopoly lands on the same space as you (he traps you).
  • Draw a Chance or Community Chest card that says to collect (or steal) one

If you land on Free Parking, you can steal 1 sore loser coin from any one of your opponents.

A player can have the maximum limit of 4 sore loser coins.

  • If a player draws a Chance or Community Chest card that says to collect 1 sore loser coin, they cannot do anything about the coins.
  • If a player lands on Free Parking, they can take away 1 sore loser coin from any opponent and return it to the Bank.
    • Some Chance and Community Chest cards say to steal 1 sore loser coin. If you have 4 already, just take away 1 sore loser coin from your opponent.

If you have 4 sore loser coins and when it is the start of your turn, you can cash in all 4 sore loser coins to take the Mr. Monopoly token with you.

  • Place your regular player token in the center of the gameboard and take the Mr. Monopoly token from there. Place the Mr. Monopoly token in the space that you are on.
    • If another player is on the same space as you, you place the Mr. Monopoly token on the side of them (not trapping them).
    • You can get out of Jail for free if you cash in the sore loser coins for Mr. Monopoly.
  • However, you CANNOT cash in the coins if you are trapped by Mr. Monopoly used by another player.

Mr. Monopoly[]

Monopoly for Sore Losers - Mr

Mr. Monopoly

You can take the Mr. Monopoly token if:

  • You spend all 4 sore loser coins to get Mr. Monopoly.
  • A Chance or Community Chest card says that you take the Mr. Monopoly token for free without spending your sore loser coins (you can keep them).

While you have the Mr. Monopoly token, he can do anything of these things for you (these things are reversed and twisted):

  • When Mr. Monopoly lands on a property that somebody else owns, the owner has to pay the rent to Mr. Monopoly.
  • When Mr. Monopoly lands on a utility or a tax, he will instead collect the same amount.
  • If you draw a Chance or Community Chest card, do what it says when you are Mr. Monopoly.
  • If Mr. Monopoly lands on the “Go to Jail” space, just stay in that space and instead send another player to go directly to Jail.
    • Staying in the “Go to Jail” space is not possible in all other editions of Monopoly.
  • When Mr. Monopoly lands on an opponent in the same space, he may steal 1 property from that opponent.
    • You may not steal a property that is part of a complete color set.
    • When it is the opponent’s turn but still trapped, they CANNOT move on that turn, so they will lose their turn. Also, they CANNOT cash in their sore loser coins.
      • However, that opponent can still take part in auctions, collect rent, buy buildings, and make deals.
    • When Mr. Monopoly lands on multiple opponents, he can steal from only 1 of these opponents.
  • When you have the Mr. Monopoly token, you can roll doubles as many times as you can. You cannot go to Jail if you roll doubles 3 times in a row.
  • When any player (not just a player with the Mr. Monopoly token) rolls doubles, a player with Mr. Monopoly will place 1 House for free. This free House can be placed in:
    • A street owned by a player with Mr. Monopoly or somebody else
    • A street that is not part of the complete color set
    • A street that has a House(s) already
    • A street that is unowned
      • If any player lands on an unowned street with a House on it, they can pay just the purchase price and they get a House for free.
    • The “build-evenly” rule still applies.
    • If there are no more Houses in the Bank, a player with Mr. Monopoly CANNOT do anything to build.
  • If Mr. Monopoly lands on Free Parking, he will take away 1 sore loser coin from your opponent.
  • If Mr. Monopoly lands on “Just Visiting / Jail” split space, he can land on either (but not both) part of that space.

When you have Mr. Monopoly, you CANNOT collect sore loser coins.

When another player cashes their sore loser coins (or drawing a Chance or Community Chest card saying to take the Mr. Monopoly token), you will give away the Mr. Monopoly token to the center of the gameboard and take your regular player token to the same space that you are on. Then, that another player will take the Mr. Monopoly token and place it in the space that they are on.

End of the Game[]

Bankrupting all of your opponents is NOT THE ONLY way to end this game.

The game will also end if all of the 26 properties have been purchased and all players have reached the GO space.

  • When a player reaches GO, they have to stop at that space even though they have any remaining spaces to move. They will collect $200. They will “escape” from this game by placing their token outside of the gameboard.
  • The players remaining on the gameboard can still cash in their sore loser coins.
  • If Mr. Monopoly lands on the property owned by the “escaped” owner, he can still collect the rent from that owner.

Once all players reach GO and “escape”, the game is over.

The players will tally their cash on hand, plus any of these bonuses:

  • Each player will collect rent for the properties that they own.
    • For properties in a complete color set, collect double rent for each undeveloped (without any buildings) property.
    • For properties with buildings, collect the rent matching the number of Houses or a Hotel.
  • The mortgaged properties, “Get Out of Jail Free” cards, sore loser coins, and the value of the Mr. Monopoly token all DO NOT count as bonuses towards the final score.

After all the bonuses have been accounted for, all the players will count up their final cash.

The player with the most cash wins the game.
