Gameplay and Rules[]
Some of the gameplay and rules from regular Monopoly are in this Monopoly Banking App edition. However, there are no paper money, houses, hotels, railroads to own, utilities to own, or bankruptcy. No player is the Banker; instead, a mobile device is the interactive Bank & Banker. In Monopoly Banking App game, it has its own mini games to play for any player to get rewards (even while in Jail).
Setting Up and Starting the Game[]
Open the Monopoly Banking app in your mobile device. Press the "New Game" button.
Put the Monopoly device stand in the center of the gameboard. Put your mobile device on this stand.
Place all of the Action cards in their corresponding icons in the center of the gameboard.
Place all of the Title Deeds near their corresponding board spaces.
Registering to Play[]
The youngest player first gets to pick a token and its matching Bank card. He/She have to scan his/her Bank card to register.
Then, the players with increasing age get to pick next. Once all the players are all set (and the setup in the app is all correct), start the game.
- The game needs at least 2 players to play.
- Having only 1 player will not allow a game to start, so another person has to join in.
Selfies[]
After scanning a Bank card and has been registered, a player has an option of taking a selfie with a camera from a same mobile device.
- If he/she is taking a selfie, a token icon will be replaced by this selfie.
- If a player does not want to take a selfie, a token icon will stay.
Taking Turns[]
The youngest player goes first. The play goes to the left.
Scoreboard[]
In the scoreboard, there will be the score for each player.
The score consists of:
- Current Amount of Cash
- Number of Properties Owned
The scoreboard sorts the tokens according to the total value that a player has.
The total value is:
- Total Cash on Hand
- Total Purchase Prices of Properties Owned
- Total Rent Values of Properties Owned
- considering Crowns and Color Sets as well
Also, each score may have an arrow indicating a change in current rank of the scoreboard.
When the "Start" button in the scoreboard has been pressed, a next screen will appear. That next screen says "Roll, Move, Scan" with a selfie or a token icon on it. Anybody with this picture is going next.
- This is also indicated by a "blink" (moving and bulging in shape) on a player's score in the scoreboard.
Rolling a Double[]
When you roll a double on the dice, instead of moving according to the dice, you can land on any space you want to be and follow the rules on a space you've selected.
In most Monopoly editions, rolling a double will give you another turn. However, in this Monopoly edition, rolling a double will not give you another turn.
- Therefore, there is no "speeding" and going to Jail when you roll doubles 3 times in a row.
Just Visiting[]
When you land on the "Just Visiting" portion of a corner space, you roll the dice again.
- This is similar to rolling doubles in most Monopoly editions.
Auction[]
Auction is another option that you can do instead of buying an unowned property.
- This also happens (automatically) if you do not have enough money to cover the entire purchase price.
The “Auction” mini-game will appear.
- You can start for real or practice.
- The practice mode is the “pre-test” so that all the Bank cards should work correctly when bidding.
When you press “Start”, the real Auction mini-game will start.
On the screen, it will show the current bid, the next bid amount, and the timer. Players can scan their Bank cards on this screen.
A player that scans his/her Bank card timely will take the next bid. He/She will be on the top of the players because he/she is the current leading bidder.
The subsequent bids will increase as players keep scanning their Bank cards. The timer resets every time a bid has been taken.
When the timer reaches 0, the auction will end and the highest bidder (a player on top of everybody else) will have to pay the final bid. He/She will get an auctioned property.
If no player scans their Bank card during an auction and the timer simply reaches 0, then this auction will end and an “auctioned” property will stay unowned.
Upgrade Crown[]
When you land on a Crown board space, take an Upgrade Crown and place it on any of your property. That property's rent will be doubled.
- If you land on a Crown board space, you must take a Crown (you cannot decline it).
- Even though you do not own any property, when you land on a Crown board space, you must take 1 Crown and place it on any property (either to another player's property or to an unowned property).
There are only 6 Upgrade Crowns in a game. A player can have multiple Upgrade Crowns. If there are no more Upgrade Crowns in stock (all Crowns have been used by players), then you have to steal one.
Color Set[]
If you own all of your properties in one single color set, then the rent of all of your properties in that color set will be doubled.
- The rent amount of the color set will be shown in the Title Deed.
With the Upgrade Crown on a property that is part of your complete color set, it will dramatically increase rent by doubling to the color-set rent.
- Therefore, you can quadruple the rent of your property of your complete color set.
Deals & Trades[]
When it is your turn, you can make a deal or a trade.
Simply press the "Trade & Sell" white button.
Then, select any player or the Bank to make a deal with.
- You can deal only one entity at a time.
- You cannot make deals with multiple other players (including the Bank) at a same time.
You can raise money by:
- Selling your property (1 or more) to the Bank for the purchase price.
- Upgrade Crowns will not increase the sales price (that is, the purchase price).
- Color Sets cannot increase sales either.
- Trading property and possibly cash of any amount to another player. That another player will give you only cash or cash with another property.
Selling to the Bank[]
You can choose up to 3 properties per transaction.
- If you want to sell more than 3 properties, you have to do more than 1 transaction.
- You can do multiple transactions on your same turn.
The sales price of a property is always its purchase price.
- regardless of Upgrade Crown or Color Set
Once you are all set, the Bank will take the properties from you and the Bank will give you money.
Even though the ownership has changed, the Upgrade Crown on a sold property must stay there.
The Bank will regain possession of the properties.
- The game will end when all the properties are in possession to players, but selling properties to the Bank will prolong the game.
Making Deals & Trades to Any One Player You Choose[]
You can give only the properties to any other one player you choose to make a deal.
- You can give up to 3 properties per transaction.
- You can do multiple transactions on your same turn with that same player (or with another one).
A player on the other side can:
- Give you another property (up to 3).
- Give you cash of any amount (can be done without him/her giving up his/her own property).
- from $0 to the amount of cash he/she currently has
- A "fair" amount of money is on the judgments of both players involved.
- These judgments include:
- Purchase Price of a property
- A property has an Upgrade Crown.
- Color Set
- psychological reasons (especially the current total value each player has)
- These judgments include:
After another player completes his/her offer to you, you can decide to agree or disagree with this offer.
- If you agree with this offer and make this "deal", then all properties and cash involved will be transacted.
- If you disagree and "no deal", then no transaction will happen.
- Mostly because you disagree with an amount of cash another player has offered to you.
Action spaces and Action cards[]
There are the total of 17 Action board spaces in this Monopoly edition.
- 5 Upgrade Crown spaces
- 5 Chance spaces
- 4 High-Speed Rail spaces
- 1 Free Parking
- 1 Go to Jail
- 1 GO
- That's almost as many as 22 properties.
When you land on an Action space, flip the matching corresponding Action card and immediately scan the card.
Chance[]
When you land on a "Chance" board space, scan the "?" Action card.
Chance will:
- Reward you with money.
- Punish you and you pay a penalty.
- Reward you with a free property.
After you read a Chance "card", scan your own Bank card for transaction.
High-Speed Rail (Railroad)[]
When you land on a High-Speed "Railroad" board space, scan the "Railroad" Action card. Then, scan your Bank card to go to the High-Speed Rail mini-game.
Wave your Bank card to start the Train. There will be properties going on a "roulette". They are in perfect order from the board. Scan your Bank card again to stop the Train.
- Especially when you want to land on a property you want or on an unowned property.
- NOTE: You can practice to get used to this High-Speed Rail mini-game.
You go around the board clockwise to get to a property that the Train has stopped.
- Therefore, if you pass GO, say "Yes" and collect the regular salary of $200.
Free Parking[]
When you land on the "Free Parking" corner space, scan the "Free Parking" Action card to play a bonus mini-game.
"Free Parking" Wheel mini-game
In this mini-game, it is the wheel.
Scan your Bank card to see the wheel. It has the slices for the rewards.
- Some awards give you money in varying amounts while a few others give you a property for free.
Wave your Bank card to spin the wheel. The speed of your wave will dictate how far the wheel will spin. It will stop once it stops spinning. You will get an award for a slice that has the pointed arrow.
Go to Jail[]
When you land on the "Go to Jail" corner space, scan the "Go to Jail" Action card (the orange one). After scanning, place your token directly in the orange square.
- You CANNOT collect $200 because you do not pass GO directly.
The app has the jail bars above your selfie or token icon. There is the "Get Out of Jail" mini-game to come.
"Get Out of Jail" Item Drop mini-game
You have to catch the required object with the Top Hat to "get out of Jail for free".
Scan your Bank card to start the mini-game, but you have to hold it with the screen.
You use your Bank card to move the Top Hat horizontally. Avoid the other objects (tokens, handcuffs, etc.) and catch the required object (indicated by a bright light around this object). Do not worry about missing objects because there will be more of this required object to catch. The brim of the Top Hat counts as a part for catching.
- If you successfully catch the required object, you successfully get out of Jail for free.
- If you catch anything else, you pay the required fine of a random amount to get out of Jail.
In any case, you roll the dice after you have played the "Get Out of Jail" mini-game.
NOTE: You can practice to get used to the synchronized movement of your Bank card and the Top Hat.
GO[]
You scan the "GO" Action card when you pass or land on the GO corner space.
- When you pass (but not land on) GO, keep moving until you reach the number according to the dice. Next, scan the "GO" Action card before following the rules on a board space you have landed. Press "Passed GO" to collect only a $200 salary. Then, follow the rules on a board space you have landed.
- When you exactly land on GO, scan the "GO" Action card and press "Landed on GO". You collect double the salary. That's $400 ($200 regular salary + $200 bonus for landing).
Bankruptcy[]
When you land on a property that is owned by someone else but you do not have enough cash to cover the full rent amount, you may be bankrupt.
You have to sell some (or 1 or all) of your properties to the Bank to raise cash. Then, you pay the full rent amount to the owner of that property.
Even though you are declared bankrupt, you continue to play.
- Therefore, you are NEVER out of the game for being bankrupt in the Monopoly App Banking edition.
Not Enough Cash but Enough Properties to Pay Debt[]
If you do not have enough cash but you have enough properties to cover a full rent amount, you have to sell some of your properties to the Bank. You sell a property at its regular purchase price.
- regardless of upgrade or color set
Once you sell enough, you get cash from the Bank. Then, you pay the owner a full rent amount.
The properties sold will be the Bank's, so players have to repurchase these properties.
Not Enough Cash and Not Enough Properties to Cover Full Debt[]
If you do not have enough cash and also do not have enough values of all of your properties, you must give all cash and all properties to the owner.
- The value of a property is always the regular purchase price.
- regardless of Upgrade Crowns or Color Sets
After paying your debt, you declare bankruptcy; however, you are NOT out of the game.
- Therefore, you keep on playing to get cash and properties.
