Characters[]
There are 5 characters in this game. Each has their own unique ability.
Edgin
When you go to Jail, you may immediately get out for free. Place your token in the “Just Visiting” section. Roll as usual in your next turn.
Holga
When you roll a “1” on a 20-sided die, you do not have to pay the “Critical Fail” penalty of 50 gold. This protects you from harsh penalty.
Simon
When you land on a Portal board space, you may move to any Location of the entire board. You have 4x the selection. However, if you pass GO, you DO NOT collect the salary.
Doric
When you land on a “Magic & Mystery” card board space, you take two cards. Choose one to use or to keep; return the other to the bottom of the deck (without using it).
Xenk
When you run out of gold and “bankrupted”, you only have to roll a 4 or higher (increasing the chance by 20%) on the 20-sided die to revive yourself. When revived, collect 50 gold from the Bank and get back to play the game.
Gameplay[]
Start of the Game[]
2-5 players can play a game.
Each player starts with 300 gold, consisting of 5 tens and 5 fifties.
Each player takes a character card and a corresponding token shown on the back of a character card. All tokens will be placed on GO.
Place the Adventure cards (all 16 of them) picture-side-up to their matching locations around the board.
Shuffle the Magic & Mystery cards (all 30 of them) and place them facedown on the card deck.
Each player will roll only the black die (not using the 20-sided die) to determine who goes first. A player who rolls the highest will go first, and play moves to the left.
Board Spaces[]
Locations
Locations are the only properties in this edition. They are like streets in regular Monopoly.
If a location is unsecured, you can pay to secure it.
Magic & Mystery
Take a top card from the card deck.
Portal
Move your token to any location between a portal that you have landed and a next portal. That’s 4 possible locations per portal.
You do not gain or lose anything.
Jail / Just Visiting
If you go from the side of a board, place your token in the “Just Visiting” section. In addition, special to this edition, you break the Jail to free all prisoners and these people will be in the “Just Visiting” section.
Immediately place your token into the orange Jail section on the other side of the corner space.
When you reach this corner space, collect 40 gold (4 tens) from the Bank.
Locations[]
There are 16 Locations in this Monopoly edition. There are 2 per each color set.
Each Location has its corresponding Adventure card. A card has both sides: a picture and a non-picture side.
When you land on a Location that is unsecured, pay the Bank the amount shown on the board space.
- If you do not have enough gold, do nothing and end your turn.
- There is no auction used in this edition.
After you pay enough gold, read the picture side of a matching Adventure card aloud and flip that card over to the non-picture side.
Then, read the details of the non-picture side of that Adventure card. You can pay another amount of gold (separate from a board space) to secure a Location. Or, you can take a chance to roll the 20-sided die to see if you secure the Location for free.
- If you roll an 8 or higher, it is a success. You secure a Location for free, and you collect a reward. When this happens, take its matching Adventure card to keep as a player that has secured that Location.
- If you roll a 7 or lower, it is a failure. You fail to secure a Location and must pay the penalty. When this happens, that Location remains unsecured and its Adventure card remains there.
Location Secured[]
When you successfully secure a Location, take its corresponding Adventure card. Having an Adventure card indicates ownership so that you can collect tax (rent).
If somebody lands on your Location that you have secured, ask them to pay the tax (rent). The amount of tax (rent) is indicated on the board.
If you own a color set by securing (and owning) 2 Locations of a same color, you will collect double tax (double rent) from anybody that lands on a Location of a complete color set.
20-sided Die[]
This die has twenty numbers in it. This die is used to:
- Trying to secure a Location without paying to secure.
- Getting back into the game from “bankruptcy”.
This special die is NEVER used to move your character token or to get out of Jail.
Critical Success & Critical Fail[]
- When you roll a “20”, the highest number, it is a “Critical Success”. You receive 50 additional gold for rolling a “20” in addition to a regular reward.
- When you roll a “1”, the lowest number, it is a “Critical Fail”. You lose 50 gold for rolling a “1” and also paying a regular penalty.
